Therapeutic Response Statement (Sensitivity)

This therapeutic response statement supports the relationship that FIP1L1::PDGFRA status confers therapeutic sensitivity to Imatinib in patients with Chronic Eosinophilic Leukemia, NOS.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration granted approval to imatinib for the treatment of adult patients with hypereosinophilic syndrome (HES) and/or chronic eosinophilic leukemia (CEL) who have the FIP1L1-PDGFRa fusion kinase (mutational analysis or fluorescence in situ hybridization [FISH] demonstration of CHIC2 allele deletion) and for patients with HES and/or CEL who are FIP1L1-PDGFRa fusion kinase negative or unknown.

This statement is based on a regulatory approval from the Food and Drug Administration:

Gleevec is a kinase inhibitor indicated for the treatment of adult patients with hypereosinophilic syndrome (HES) and/or chronic eosinophilic leukemia (CEL) who have the FIP1L1-PDGFRa fusion kinase (mutational analysis or fluorescence in situ hybridization [FISH] demonstration of CHIC2 allele deletion) and for patients with HES and/or CEL who are FIP1L1-PDGFRa fusion kinase negative or unknown.
